City Council honors local hero, streetworker Will Harvey

At-Large City Councilor Felix G. Arroyo and Council President Mike Ross headed a meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 27, to honor William Harvey, a Boston outreach worker shot in the line of duty last August. Then, at the City Council meeting that followed, the two councilors filed an order for a hearing that will examine the dangers faced by city employees who aren’t public safety officers-like police or fire personnel-but still work in high-risk environments. The hearing will also focus on how said employees are compensated for injuries sustained on the job.

Tradition is a big part of the House of Representatives. While some customs might be deemed as silly or outdated, they are respected and carried on through generations of the Commonwealth’s elected leaders. From the way members address each other as Gentleman and Gentlelady to the Sacred Cod that hangs in the back of the Chamber that represents the Commonwealth’s initial reliance on the fishing industry and traditionally hangs in the direction of whichever party is in control of the House (Although, some might say that it has faced left for so long that this practice is more myth then anything). These traditions surround you.
