
Planning for Hurricane Earl
By South End News Staff | Sep 3 Today Mayor Thomas M. Menino convened city officials to develop emergency response plans in preparation for Hurricane Earl’s arrival in the Northeast. Earl is currently a Category 4 storm located off the coast of North Carolina and is expected to weaken to a Category 2 storm as it reaches the Boston area between late Friday morning and early Saturday.

A man was brought to the BMC with two gunshot wounds in his leg. Though the victim didn’t say much, he alluded to the fact he got shot while at a club. Police were unable to locate any crime scene.

She was talking about the requirements to attend the University of Massachusetts (UMass) program, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), which offers classes to people over the age of 50.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for a good excuse to eat ice cream. And find a good excuse Bostonians did this past weekend. On Sunday, the South End Open Market was home to the second annual Ice Cream Showdown and ice cream lovers showed up to support a good cause and, perhaps, feed an ice cream addiction with abandon.

Boston Police have learned that between July 13, 2010 and August 13, 2010, several armed robberies have occurred in the South End (District D-4) and appear to be related. In all of the incidents, the suspect, a similarly described black male, showed a firearm during the robberies (note mostly early morning times for incidents reported below):
