Internships

South End News offers a comprehensive intern program for college students interested in newspaper journalism and publishing. During an internship, a minimum of 15 hours of work per week is required. Positions are unpaid, but offer experience in many aspects of newspaper journalism and business. All interns must be enrolled in an academic or work-study credit program.

EDITORIAL INTERNSHIPS
Editorial internships are open to college undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Journalism or English. Interns are responsible for fact checking, proofreading, research and occasional writing. Candidates should exhibit strong grammar and writing skills. Internships are available throughout the year.

ART/DESIGN INTERNSHIPS
Art/design interns should have knowledge of Adobe InDesign. Applicants must be studying graphic design and/or fine arts. Intern responsibilities include organizing and collecting art for publication, designing ads, editorial and marketing fliers. Advanced students may have the opportunity to work on page layout.

PUBLISHING INTERNSHIPS
Interns have the opportunity to learn the many different facets of newspaper publishing, including production, sales, marketing, and public relations. They assist in creating and executing communications and marketing strategies, researching and coordinating mailings, arranging PR activities, updating website listings and coordinating special events.
