Boston's South End has long stood as a vibrant example of what makes our city great—diverse, inclusive, and unafraid to celebrate community in all its forms. Every June, as rainbow flags line Tremont and Columbus Avenues and neighbors gather in joy and solidarity, Pride reminds us of the power of visibility, love, and shared history. As a candidate for Boston City Council in District 7, I want to uplift that legacy.

Pride in the South End is more than a parade—it's a reflection of the neighborhood's cultural fabric, built by LGBTQ+ pioneers, artists, elders, and organizers who turned this community into a beacon for equity and self-expression. Celebrating Pride here is a way of honoring those who have fought for freedom and dignity, and recommitting ourselves to a Boston where everyone can thrive—regardless of who they love or how they identify.

As I campaign across Roxbury, Dorchester, the South End, and Fenway, I'm reminded daily that District 7's strength lies in its people. And that includes our LGBTQ+ neighbors who continue to shape this city's story with brilliance and resilience.

This Pride Month, I'm proud to stand alongside them. I'm grateful for the chance to celebrate this community's contributions, and I look forward to continuing to build bridges across all corners of District 7.

Sincerely,
Mavrick Afonso
Candidate for Boston City Council, District 7
