A Dorchester man is facing charges after allegedly attacking and carjacking an Uber driver in Boston's South End last week, according to the Boston Globe.
Police responded to the intersection of Massachusetts and Columbus avenues around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, where they found a distressed Uber driver, the Globe reported.
The driver told officers she had picked up a passenger in Cambridge and was traveling through the South End when she felt a cord or wire tighten around her neck, restricting her breathing, according to police statements cited by the Globe.
A witness reported seeing the driver struggling with someone in the back seat before she managed to escape from the vehicle and call for help, the Globe reported. The passenger then moved to the driver's seat and fled in the car.
Officers tracked the vehicle using the driver's phone, which remained inside, and located it in the area of Stanwood Street and Blue Hill Avenue, where they arrested Christopher Dawkins, 30, of Worcester, according to the report.
Universal Hub also covered the incident on its website.
The driver's husband confirmed to WCVB that she was treated at a hospital and later released.
