Newly elected Senator Liz Miranda today announced her hiring and appointment of South End native, Maliha Khan, as Legislative and Budget Director for her office in the Massachusetts State Senate.
As a key leadership role in the Senator's office, Maliha will lead the office's legislative portfolio, support the development and execution of Senator Miranda's legislative agenda, including environmental justice, strengthening public education pre-k through higher ed, reform of the criminal legal system, improving maternal health outcomes, and strengthening our affordable housing programs in the Commonwealth.
"As the daughter of immigrants, myself, I know how important lived experience in this role. Growing up in the Cathedral projects, graduating from Boston Public Schools, and putting herself through college, Maliha understands what many of our constituent's face and this experience can and should inform our legislative agenda. She has a unique ability of ensuring the people's voice is centered at the forefront of policy, said Senator Liz Miranda."
Maliha graduated from Suffolk University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Environmental Science, and a Master of Public Policy. Prior to serving in the Massachusetts State Senate, she was the campaign manager for Liz Miranda for State Senate and served as the Campaign Manager for the Environmental League of Massachusetts.
Senator Liz Miranda represents the newly redistricted 2nd Suffolk District with neighborhoods in Roxbury, Dorchester, South End, Mattapan, Hyde Park, Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale and the Fenway.
