Lovin' Our Blocks

Sunny spring weather greeted volunteers across the South End as they cleaned, landscaped and beautified their parks, gardens and green spaces during the citywide Love Your Block outdoor cleanup on Saturday, May 5.

Many of the neighborhood associations and Friends groups sweetened the pot for volunteers with hospitality, offering baked goods and coffee in the morning, while the Friends of Ringgold Park promised a barbecue after the event. While the Ringgold Park crew swept and raked, a couple of birthday parties set up on the perimeter of the park.

At the Wellington Green pocket park on Wellington Street, city councilor Kim Janey stopped by and helped members of the Claremont Neighborhood Association (CNA) in planting flowers. Wellington Green was just one stop on Janey's tour of gardens and parks all around her district, which encompasses Roxbury, Dorchester, the South End and the Fenway.
