Victory Programs Needs Your Help

Michaela, a 27-year old mother, came to our Joelyn's Family Home in an effort to turn her life around. A domestic abuse survivor and in recovery for heroin addiction, Michaela sees a bright future thanks to the help and support she has received. This week, however, the stability that Michaela and the 32 other clients at Joelyn's Family Home were relying on began to falter.

On Wednesday, Joelyn's Family Home, located on Boston's Long Island, was evacuated without warning when the bridge that connects the city to the Island was deemed structurally unsound. Police gave staff only a few hours to evacuate leaving clients without food, extra clothing or needed medications. Today, it was announced that the Long Island Bridge will be closed for up to five years.

The costs of this bridge closure are financial and emotional. Victory Programs faces the loss of essential contract dollars with the beds at Joelyn's unoccupied, and the emotional toll of moving our clients from the safety and security of their home is immeasurable.

Although we are relieved to report that all of our displaced clients are now housed at other Victory Programs sites, we are left to wonder what will come of Joelyn's Family Home and its 20 staff members.

To ease the financial burden of this unfortunate situation, a generous donor has pledged $25,000 if we are able to match this wonderful gift. Please consider making a donation to Victory Programs' Joelyn's Family Home today as we plan for the future of this vital program and the individuals like Michaela who depend on it for their own future.
