Winter Parking Space-Savers rejected: The PBNA and South-End Forum (Composed of South End Neighborhood Associations) are working with City Officials to remove all parking space-savers this Winter. Call the Mayor's Hotline 617-635-4500 or use the Citizens Connect Smartphone app to remove space-savers at any time. (I.E., there is no "48-hour rule".)

Trash Tip: Don't tie recycling bags tightly if they contain bottles & cans. Cinching the bag loosely allows scavengers to open the bag, remove the returnables, and re-cinch the bag.

BU's National Emerging Infectious Diseases Lab will begin doing Tuberculosis research in the coming months, following approval of the work by the Boston Public Health Commission. See bu.edu/neidl or contact Vjbritto@bu.edu to be put on their mailing list.

Mayor Menino's South End Liasion, Hilani Morales, has moved to the Small and Local Business Enterprise Office. If you need a contact at City Hall, call the Mayor's Hotline at (617) 635-4500. Alternatively you may contact Jay Walsh, Director of the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services at Jay.Walsh@cityofboston.gov. NOTE, You can also contact info@pilotblock.org, however we may not be able to respond as quickly as the Mayor's hotline.

Crime & Security question: Does the rear of your property include both a dusk-to-dawn light and your house number? Boston Police recommend you have both. Your neighbors will thank you, too.

Neighborhood Cleanup:

Saturday, November 23, 9 a.m-1 p.m.

Start with coffee & doughnuts at Harriett Tubman Park. Fan out to other areas within the PBNA as needed

Inclement Weather: We will work rain or shine. A big storm will cause cancellation. I'll send email in the event of a cancellation. Or you can call 617.513.8588.

Dress for some light yard work and the weather. Work gloves are recommended.

Equipment: The city provides rakes, brooms, shovels, trash bags, etc. And they have street sweepers working the area.

Purpose & Detail:

1) Spruce up the neighborhood. We'll start in Harriett Tubman Park, and typically do a bit of work in the alleys. If you have an area within our boundaries that needs attention, we can get a crew there!

2) Socialize. The event is a great opportunity to meet and chat with your neighbors.

3) If you want to clean up your own property, we can help coordinate pick-up of yard-waste or lend some tools for the morning.

Wreaths

Dec 3: Deadline for ordering wreaths. Please see order & donation form at www.pilotblock.org

Dec 7: Wreath Hanging & Social Event (*volunteers needed*)

The wreaths make the neighborhood look very charming for the holidays. And that charm is part of the reason you live here, right?

Wreath-hanging is an entirely volunteer effort; it's also a fun social activity as you can see from the pictures.

Fund-raising goes toward DIY alley maintenance of private alleys, providing snacks during activities like the neighborhood cleanup, maintaining our website, printing fliers and signs, and similar expenses.
