City Officials Announce Free Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series
Fitness classes will be offered throughout June, July, and August at parks across the city.

ParkSCIENCE Festival Returns To Jamaica Pond June 8
The Boston Parks and Recreation Department's ParkSCIENCE program hosts a children's science festival on Sunday, June 8, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jamaica Pond Boathouse in Jamaica Plain. The festival provides an entertaining way for people to gather and celebrate summer on the shores of the "jewel of the Emerald Necklace."
New England Aquarium Traveling Tide Pool, the Inventor Mentor, and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. Activities will include bottle rocket and bubble experiments and refreshments will be provided by Polar Beverages.
Discounted sailboat rides are being offered courtesy of Courageous Sailing, professional actor-puppeteer Charlotte Anne Dore of Rosalita's Puppets will present a whimsical puppet show, and children can visit a facepainter. In addition, the Boston Public Library will give away books and provide information about the "Read Your Way to Fenway" summer reading contest.
ParkSCIENCE, a series of educational workshops presented in City of Boston parks, is designed to teach children that science is fun and can be experienced everywhere around them. Interactive experiments and demonstrations challenge children's cognitive skills and invite them to ask questions, hypothesize, gather and weigh evidence, and then draw conclusions.

Frog Pond Wading Reopens June 28
Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Interim Boston Parks Commissioner Chris Cook, and The Skating Club of Boston president Joe Blount are pleased to welcome children and guests to kick off the 2014 summer season as the Boston Common Frog Pond reopens on Saturday, June 28. The day will include a fun and exciting celebration at 11 a.m. followed by the opening of the wading pool.
"The Frog Pond is the place to be where youngsters can cool off in the summer heat and meet new playmates," said Mayor Walsh. "With the carousel and Swan Boats nearby, Boston Common is the perfect destination for a family outing."
In addition to activities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., information regarding upcoming summer programs offered by the City of Boston and the Boston Public Health Commission will be available to families and residents and tasty treats will be provided by in-kind sponsors H.P. Hood LLC and the National Dairy Council's "Must Be the Milk" tour and Polar Beverages.
The celebration will feature a special visit from official mascot Frog Pond Freddie, entertainment, face painting, books courtesy of ReadBoston, giveaways from Mix 104.1 FM, and "Must Be the Milk" tour activities featuring games, dairy information, and prizes. In addition, children of all ages are eligible to enter a summer raffle.
Families will also be able to enjoy a ride on the Boston Common Carousel. The Carousel is handicapped accessible and has height requirements: anyone 42" or taller can ride alone; anyone under 42" requires the presence of an adult. Admission for the ride is $3 with 10 ride cards available for $25. Hours of operation will be Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A year-round recreational facility, the Frog Pond offers ice skating in the winter, a spray pool and supervised wading for youngsters in the summer, and the Carousel from spring through fall. Visitors can also hop over to the Frog Pond Cafe to enjoy refreshments such as sandwiches, salads, hot dogs, hamburgers, frozen soft serve yogurt and shakes, and more.
The Frog Pond spray pool is open for wading daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Labor Day. The facility is managed by The Skating Club of Boston and staffed by youth workers from the Boston Youth Fund. For further information, please call the Frog Pond at (617) 635-2120.
