The third and fourth jazz-and-blues blowouts in Library Park will take place on August 9 and 23, with the handles Grits 'N Gravy: A Soulful Evening of Jazz and Blues, and Let's Groove Tonight: A funky Jazz Party with Ivory Jones and White Chocolate, respectively. We've ordered good weather. We'll bring the watermelons and slice them on the spot. Seating will be limited so bring your own chairs. For details, visit http://www.friendsofsouthendlibrary.org

The Friends of the South End Library (FOSEL) has embarked on its 2017/18 membership drive: We are counting on your generosity to make it a success and thank you for that. Your contributions help pay for the summer Jazz & Blues concerts; for our popular speaker series, The South End Writes, that has brought you award-winning and otherwise outstanding authors and commentators for the last five years; and children's programming, including our fantastic Easter Egg Hunt.

Over the years, FOSEL has paid for numerous library repairs and improvements and is currently in the process of rallying city support to have the library building updated and expanded. Thanks to FOSEL's advocacy, Library Park will be renovated in the next two years, while we are maintaining, watering and weeding the beloved greenspace in the meantime. We can't do it without you. Please use our DONATE button on the web site, or pick up a membership form and donation envelope at the branch and become a member of the best institution in town.
