Healthy Eating: Bring in the New Year with a Healthier You!

What: Free Monthly CHWs Forum on the topic of healthy eating. You will find out how much sugar you are consuming, learn creative ways to add flavor to your food without using salt, learn how to be mindful about your food consumption, and learn to identify key nutrients on food labels. Free parking is available in the garage.

Community Housing Clinic

What: The Office of Housing Stability's Community Housing Clinic is a tremendous resource for residents - tenants and landlords - to talk one-on-one with a housing professional about landlord-tenant laws, learn how to access affordable housing opportunities and discover housing resources available to landlords and tenants. Tenants can learn about their rights if their building is sold, their rents are rising or they're facing eviction. Landlords can get information on enforcing lease provisions, cost-effective resources to resolve disputes and programs to support home repairs and maintenance.

Free Bilingual Playgroup

What: There is a free Jamaica Plain based playgroup in English and Spanish for children ages 1-5 years old. Each playgroup is 2 hours long, and parents should bring their children once a week. The playgroup takes place in a classroom setting and the goal is preparation for kindergarten. Each playgroup includes free play, circle time, snack time, and a gross motor/sensory activity. Parents are responsible for providing their own snacks. This is also an opportunity for parents to become familiar with Boston Public Schools and to meet other BPS parents. Tennis Lessons for Kids, Adults, and Seniors

RPCSIC Cory Johnson Trauma Education Program "Can we talk?" Monthly Meeting

What: This is for everyone who is struggling with loss, trauma, and/or grief. Program offers a safe space and connection within community. There is no charge and it begins with dinner. There is NO requirement to share, but if someone chooses to share, they can speak for 3-5 minutes. Program also includes artistic expression throughout the evening with music and dance.
When: The last Thursday of every month. Dinner offered at 6:00 PM and then moving into the stories and sharing at 6:45 PM.

Boston Alliance for Community Health (BACH) Ambassador Program

What: This program aims to connect Boston residents with organizations in their neighborhoods, raise awareness on public policy work directly affecting their community, and encourage resident participation in advocacy efforts related to community health improvement. Ambassadors are residents of all ages who are already actively engaged in their neighborhoods and able to connect with and mobilize their neighbors to take action on social justice and public health policy issues. Benefits include a stipend of up to $500 - depending on engagement and recruitment -, free leadership and educational training, and more.

What: Boston EMS is offering Adult Hands-Only CPR instructional classes are available at no cost for groups of 15 or more. What: For young adults interested in taking their next step in their journey towards a career & higher education, Year Up's mission is to close the opportunity divide through a one-year intensive program. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Information Sessions at the Boston Public Library

What: Boston Public Library will be hosting several USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) Information Sessions at the Central Library as well as at four of the other branches over the next few months. Senior Save Applications Now Available

What: City announced that applications are now available for Seniors Save, a proactive program that helps income eligible seniors replace failing or inefficient heating systems before winter begins? Applications are currently available through the Boston Home Center (BHC), by visiting the Department of Neighborhood Development's website, or by contacting one of the BHC's partner senior agencies. To qualify, income-eligible seniors must be 60 years of age or older, the occupants of a residential one-to-four family property or condominium in the City of Boston and income must not exceed 80 percent of median family income, as determined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Eligible homeowners will receive a $3,500 grant towards upgrades to their heating systems. Any additional funding is available in the form of a zero percent interest, deferred loan, which will only be payable on the sale of the property, a refinance or transfer of the title. Once a senior citizen submits an application, BHC Construction Specialists will work with the homeowner on the scope of the project, and will help select a contractor from the BHC's pre-approved, licensed and insured contractor list. A BHC Construction Specialist will then oversee the work from start to finish.

Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC)

What: What immigrants can do now. People should go to a legal services provider to be screened for any possible immigration options other than DACA they for which they may already eligible. Volunteer with Sole Train

What: Sole Train is a community building and mentoring program that uses running as a vehicle for setting and achieving previously unimaginable goals. Volunteers are asked to commit 1-2 hours a week of weekday practice time and 5 weekend races/community building events. No running experience is required.

Boston 1ON1

What: Boston 1ON1 is an opportunity for a new resident to learn about the many services in Boston that might affect them. It would also be a chance to ask questions about anything from park use to parking. As City Hall to Go already processes parking permits, provides trash and recycling stickers, assists in signing up for city apps (BOS311/PARK BOSTON), and much more, new residents can leave their meeting with all of their City business taken care of, and a better understanding of this new place they are calling home. In addition, Boston 1ON1 will introduce residents to cultural resources, state and federal resources, as well as important information regarding their new neighborhood.
