At about 6:30 PM on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) made an onsite firearm arrest after performing a traffic stop in the area of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Shawmut Avenue in Roxbury. The officers had stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction when they learned that the vehicle was not properly insured and that the operator, Gary Joseph, 31, of Roxbury, was driving with a suspended license. Officers placed the suspect in custody and later recovered a silver .380 caliber handgun during an inventory search prior to towing the vehicle. The suspect has since been arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
