Traveling with the Green Book in Boston

On Saturday, March 21, from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM, City Mission invites you to join us for the first Annual Tour of the Green Book Tour of Boston.
The Green Book was considered to be the AAA guide for black motorists who took to American roads. First published in 1936, during the period of Jim Crow segregation, it identified establishments that would accept the business of African Americans.
This included information about hotels, restaurants, gas stations, barber shops, drug stores, and more. To stay safe black people never left home without a plan and a copy of the Green Book.
Led by Rev. June R. Cooper, Executive Director of City Mission
Former Rep. Byron Rushing
The tour includes a presentation by Rev. Cooper and Rep. Rushing, a viewing of the documentary film "The Green Book: Guide to Freedom", written and directed by Yourba Richen, a walking tour to several Green Book sites in the South End, and lunch at the historic Slade's Restaurant—a Green Book site.
