At SECHC

South End Community Health Center (SECHC) has been awarded a prestigious and highly competitive American Cancer Society Community Initiatives CHANGE Grant to conduct a public health and quality improvement campaign that aims to increase early screening for breast and colorectal cancer in Boston's South End community. The grant is made possible with funding from the National Football League. SECHC is one of 32 grant recipients nationwide and the ONLY organization in New England to be selected. Over the next 18 months the health center will collaborate with the American Cancer Society, local businesses, residents, and community organizations as part of a "South End Makes the Crucial Catch" campaign to intercept cancer.

With a laser focus on quality coordinated care and patient education, SECHC will also improve internal systems that enable early identification and increase breast cancer screening rates by 21% and colorectal screening rates by 10%.

The South End Makes the Crucial Catch campaign and quality improvement initiative will officially kick off with a "Crucial Catch Day - Intercept Cancer" event on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 3pm to 6pm at SECHC, 1601 Washington Street, Boston, MA.

Attendees will receive a Crucial Catch scorecard and have the opportunity to score touchdowns, field goals, and safeties as they participate in educational activities and demonstrate knowledge learned during their station visits. High scorers will win prizes. Each station will also feature educational take-away materials with follow-up, next step, and contact information for attendees to refer to post-event. There will also be healthy and nutritious food and beverages on site.
