Really, Hubway? Really?
As a nearby resident, I am dismayed for the second consecutive year to see the rather thoughtless location of your Washington/Rutland bike Hubway station on the street. There, it displaces four highly coveted, metered parking spaces. A more logical Hubway location here would be on the broad, brick sidewalk adjoining the present site. Also, the site, where it is now, forces people using this station onto the street in front of a busy Silver Line bus station. Thus, they may be more at risk of an accident there.
A better example of a Hubway site is the Tremont St./W. Newton station only two blocks away. It is sited on the much narrower sidewalk there fronting the South End public library branch. The metered parking spaces in front of this station thus are free to operate.
While I applaud the concept of the Hubway system, we can hardly afford the loss in the densely populated South End of these spaces along Washington St. They not only accommodate deliveries and customers to local businesses in the area, but they also facilitate guests and tradespeople visiting our homes.
Therefore, I am requesting the prompt relocation of the Washington/Rutland station onto the sidewalk. Thank you for your attention to my request.
