Tuesday night, May 19 3rd Suffolk State Representative Democratic Primary winner Aaron Michlewitz’s campaign director Richard Lynds said one of the major keys to the North End native’s victory was the strong support the candidate received from his home neighborhood.

A breakdown of the voting results support Lynds’ argument. In Ward 3, precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 (all in the North End), Michlewitz earned an average of 76.74 percent of the vote on his way to a 181-vote victory over his closest competitor, South Ender Susan Passoni.

In total, Michlewitz earned 2,116 votes (50.20 percent), edging out Passoni (1,945 votes, 46.14 percent), Lucy Rivera (103 votes, 2.44 percent) and Brian Ross (44 votes, 1.04 percent).

Passoni, however, was the favored candidate in the South End. At the three South End polling places, Ward 3, precinct 7 and Ward 8, precincts 1 and 2 (Cathedral High School), Ward 4, precinct 1 (McKinley School), and Ward 5, precinct 1 (465 Tremont St.), Passoni led the way, carrying 61.41 percent, 66.67 percent, 75.56 percent, 76.31 percent, and 61.59 percent of the vote, respectively.

The two biggest disparities came in Ward 3, precinct 4, where Michlewitz grabbed an astounding 89.34 percent of the vote, and in Ward 8, precinct 3, where Passoni took home a whopping 88.46 percent. Ward 3, precinct 8 featured the tightest competition, where Michlewitz emerged victorious with 58.38 percent, but Passoni stayed close with 40.27 percent. In no other precinct did the two candidates earn more than 35.67 percent.
