More than $1.1 million worth of grants were distributed today to 98

Massachusetts non-profit organizations during Eastern Bank’s 8th Annual "Community Quarterback" award ceremony featuring former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie.

The Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation donated $1,175,000 in grants and recognized each organization for its outstanding community leadership.

Eastern Bank chairman and CEO Richard E. Holbrook and Flutie, the bank’s spokesman, honored the organizations before more than 200 guests during a ceremony where a representative from each organization was presented with a Doug Flutie-autographed football-a token of appreciation of their leadership. All organizations received a grant of $10,000 or more from the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation.

"Eastern Bank is proud to honor 98 organizations that work tirelessly to improve the lives of the underserved and neediest members of our community," said Holbrook. "We call these organizations ’Community Quarterbacks,’ and we are committed to working with them-through our grants and employee volunteer efforts-to strengthen the cities and towns in eastern Massachusetts."

"It’s been an honor over the last seven years to work with Rich Holbrook and Eastern Bank on the ’Community Quarterback’ event, which is a staple on the state’s charitable events calendar," said Flutie.

The grants were among the $2.6 million donated last year to more than 1,200 non-profit organizations by the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation. In eight years, the "Community Quarterback" program has honored 369 organizations with more than $5.5 million in grants.

The mission of the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation is to contribute, in a meaningful way, to the health and vitality of the various eastern Massachusetts communities served by Eastern Bank Corporation.
