Challenged to do better

Alongside 49 other animal shelters in the United States, the Animal Rescue League (ARL) is competing to win $100,000. Since the beginning of August, the shelter has been a part of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) $100K Challenge, a competition that requires the shelter to provide 300 more homes for cats, dogs, kittens and puppies between August and October than they did during the same period last year.

Businesses join with police

The stories flew. One recent woman, Turtle owner Ann Dingwell remembered, had stole several garments right in front of her. "She was just so fast," Dingwell said.

Senator candidates make their case

Three days before Sunday services, about 100 people descended upon an un-air-conditioned church a hot, muggy Thursday evening. Those in attendance, however, came for civic rather than religious reasons.

Restoring the old

From 1889 to 1892, the building we now know as just the Power Station, was the largest privately-owner electric generation plant in the world. It powered the West End Street railway electric trolley cars, which ran all over the city of Boston. But 1899, the station supplied power to the Boston elevation Railway before being used at a maintenance facility.
