Restoring the soul to get a good night’s sleep
By South End News Staff | Wednesday Jul 6, 2011
Dear Holistically Speaking, I’m finding it much harder to fall asleep and stay asleep now than I do in the winter. It seems like it never gets dark, and I have trouble winding down. I wake up earlier too, with the sun rising so early. Do you have any suggestions to sleep better?
Natural ways to fight radiation
By Demie Stathoplos and Beth Sommers | Wednesday Apr 20, 2011
Can you recommend any natural ways we can protect ourselves from radiation? I’m concerned about my family’s health in light of the nuclear reactor failure in Japan. I remember being in grade school and taking monthly iodine pills (the chocolate ones were the best!) in order to prevent any ill health effects from radiation. Are there any other options?

Dear Holistically Speaking, What are some alternative approaches to digestive health? Do you have any suggestions for someone whose "weakest link" is her stomach?
Fight the cold
By Demie Stathoplos and Beth Sommers | Wednesday Sep 22, 2010
Dear Holistically Speaking, I need some advice about exercise when the weather gets colder. I’m not really a couch potato, but I am exercise-challenged. Where do I start? There are so many choices - yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, zumba - the list goes on and on!

My friends are encouraging me to go to an acupuncturist, but I’m reluctant because I don’t know much about this form of health care. Can you give me some basic information about it, and tell me what kinds of factors I should consider in looking for an acupuncturist?
Seeking alternatives

Q: This may be an odd question for your column - but I have always utilized "alternative" medicine, quite literally I hardly ever see a Western (allopathic) doctor. Now I hear so much about "integrative medicine" I am wondering what my first steps should be in trying to integrate more?
Spring cleaning
By Demie Stathoplos and Beth Sommers | Tuesday Mar 23, 2010
Dear Holistically Speaking, Some of my friends at work are using "spring cleaning" detoxes and other methods to improve their health. What’s the story about these and do you have any recommendations? I generally take fairly good care of myself, but I don’t want to do any risky practices. Staying Healthy
Looking for some healing

Q: Dear Holistically Speaking, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago and have not been able to find any relief for my symptoms. I tried acupuncture in the past, but it caused me to have a flare up that actually increased my pain. Is there something holistic I could try that might help? Signed, Searching for solutions
Getting your body running again
By Demie Stathoplos and Beth Sommers | Thursday Jan 28, 2010
Q: Dear Holistically Speaking: Since the holidays I haven’t been as regular as I’d like and need to be. Is there a natural way that will help without turning to stimulant laxatives which I have heard can be habit forming? I’ve been feeling uncomfortable and bloated as well. Help! Feeling Stuck
