Mayor’s office to sponsor five climate action workshops Monday Feb 8, 2010
From the office of the mayor:
Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Environmental and Energy Services are sponsoring five community workshops on Climate Action with one workshop specifically for the high school students of Boston. These workshops are part of the Boston Climate Action Leadership Committee, which will provide recommendations for the City’s new climate action plan on ways to reduce greenhouse gases, save energy, adapt to the changes we can’t avoid, and expand the green economy.
"These workshops will explain what we are doing to address climate change and will gain input on what we can all do reduce environmental impacts and improve the livability of Boston," said Menino. "It’s going to take creative thinking, tough decisions, and a real commitment from all of Boston’s residents, businesses, and organizations, including city government, to bring about the transformative change needed to address one of the greatest challenges facing our city in the years ahead. Together we are charting the course for a greener, more prosperous Boston."
In addition to a high school student workshop, there will be four neighborhood-based workshops to:
*learn about how climate change is already affecting Boston and what we can do about it *give feedback on new climate action proposals that include actions related to housing, transportation, and beyond, using interactive keypad polling *meet and talk with other Boston residents who care about climate action *and learn about Renew Boston, the City’s program to link residents with practical resources to start saving energy and reducing greenhouse gases right away. "I used to think climate change was something I had to care about for my grandchildren but I have come to understand that it is also about ways to create jobs, save on energy costs, and live healthier now," said Patricia Brandes, Executive Director of the Barr Foundation. "Making this leap forward to a clean energy economy means big benefits for families and communities. We applaud our mayor for engaging all of our residents, especially our youth."
