Ringgold Park

The Mayor's Coffee in the Park!
Marty Walsh wants to meet you! Come meet Mayor Marty Walsh, at his annual "Neighborhood Coffee Hour" in the South End on Friday, May 15th at 9:30 AM in Ringgold Park! This is our opportunity to thank the City for their investment in the park and their partnership with us, and to ask for Big Belly trash cans which would further improve the park!

Boston Shines and Cookout at Ringgold Park
Join your neighbors, friends, and Eight Streets residents Saturday May 2nd from 9 to 11:30 as we mulch and clean the park as part of the city-wide cleanup! We're even selling plants for your stoop or window box! Plant sale from 9-2. Please roll up your sleeves and pitch in at this fun neighborhood beautification event.

Then go home, wash your hands, grab your kids and your favorite dish to share, and head back to Ringgold Park for a family cookout and potluck from 11:30 to 2! Musical entertainment provided!

Fete du Musique June 21!
The Friends of Ringgold Park is partnering again with the Community Music Center of Boston to bring you a family concert outdoors as part of CMCB's "Fete du Musique" on June 21 from 6 to 8 pm. Bring a picnic and blanket, and kick back and enjoy a summer evening in the neighborhood!

Watson Park needs friends too!
April 29th, at 6 pm, there is a public meeting in Watson Park (which is on Taylor Street and Milford Street) to discuss the future of this pocket park. Rain location is at Farm and Fable. Hope to see you there!

Hurley Block
Get some sunshine (hopefully!), chat with your neighbors, and pitch in to clean up the Hurley Blocks now that spring is here.

You can pick up supplies in front of the Hurley School starting at 9:30 am. Please return by 12:30 pm.

There will be a special trash pick-up on this day. Please place all trash and yard waste on the corner of Shawmut and Worcester to help out the trash crew. Yard waste should be in big paper bags or open barrels appropriately labeled.

Old Dover

Boston Shines, Saturday May 2, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

After a long, messy winter, take some time to help get our neighborhood ready for spring with a fresh, clean look. Next weekend, Saturday, May 2the city's official "Boston Shines" program in the South End.

It's a grass-roots, community effort to clean up our neighborhoods! Please join with Old Dover for a few hours that day for some productive clean-up.

We'll focus on the sidewalks and curb areas along Washington, Harrison, and the side streets. We'll divide into teams and each focus on a different area. See how much debris we can gather and sweep away in two hours.

Then show up by 10:30 that day. (Tentative meeting spot: Rollins Street.)

Old Dover Monthly meeting the first Tuesday of the month:
Tuesday, May 5 -- 6:30 pm, at Project Place, 1145 Washington St, 2nd Flr.

Tentative Meeting Agenda
Parking/Traffic updates
As a follow up to the discussion held at our April meeting, Old Dover will present some data and recommendations with regard to traffic flow and parking in the neighborhood. On May 5, we will look to gather further neighborhood input, and take a vote on final recommendations which we hope to make to the city Transportation Department.

136 Shawmut Ave/Holy Trinity Church
Developers of the former Holy Trinity Church on Shawmut Avenue presented their plans last month. At the May meeting, we will vote on the contents of our comment letter to the city with regard to the project.

As previously announced, the project's Small Project Review document has been filed with BRA, and they are seeking Old Dover and community comments. Public meeting on the project will take place April 27 (see below). View project documents online here.

Community Benefit Funding
An IAG has been established for the Ink Block Hotel project, and Old Dover has representation. Part of the role of that group will be to recommend and prioritize any community benefit funds realized through the project. We will have a discussion and look to gather information on the neighborhood's funding priorities.

SOWA

On Sunday, May 3, hundreds of studios and galleries will be opening their doors for a day solely dedicated to celebrating art. The event is free, open to the public, and parking is available, so start May off with an incredible art experience right here in our backyard!

May 3 also coincides with the first SoWa Sunday of 2015! Every Sunday from May - October, SoWa hosts dozens of food trucks, a fantastic farmers market, and the popularSoWa vintage market.

To add to the excitement, that weekend is also First Friday! On the First Friday of every month, the galleries, artists, shops & restaurants of the SoWa Arts District open their doors to the public for an evening of culture and inspiration.
