Cantata Singers has commissioned Boston-based composer and 2014 Guggenheim fellow Elena Ruehr to write Eve, a new work for soloists, choir and orchestra that uses text from Genesis 3, the Fall of Man. South End resident and Opera Singer Farah Darliette will sing the solo part of Eve in the new work, as she makes her world premiere début in Jordan Hall. Ms. Darliette has performed with Cantata Singers for 4 years, often serving as the soprano Section Leader.

While in the South End she is often recognized as the girlfriend of well-known bartender Peter Cipriani, Ms. Darliette's growing career as a soloist & recitalist has seen her grace Boston's finest Jazz and Classical music stages, and this year, she was a semi-finalist in Chicago's prestigious The American Prize 2014 competition for her work in oratorio and art song performance. Most recently - under the auspices of Miss Crystal and Miss Eloise - Ms. Darliette has begun a monthly series of live operatic performances as the glittering 'Mini-mega Diva' Minnie Normuse at Jacque's Cabaret in Bay Village.

Cantata Singers' 51st season will commence on Saturday, November 8th at 8:00pm at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall with a concert that builds on Cantata Singers' tradition of presenting new works for choir and ensemble alongside Classical and Baroque repertoire. The program features the World Premiere of Elena Ruehr's Eve paired with two cantatas by J.S. Bach-his harmonically inventive cantata BWV 77, "Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben" (You shall love God, your Lord) and the festive wedding cantata BWV 195(a), "Dem Gerechten muß das Licht" (The light shall ever rise again for the righteous). The season opener builds on Cantata Singers' tradition of presenting new works for choir and ensemble alongside Classical and Baroque repertoire.
