South End Library Park Concerts Return

As if a reward for enduring the punishing 7-day heat wave that seared Boston, Tuesday, July 26 brought perfect summer weather with milder temperatures and a light breeze to welcome back the popular Concerts at Library Park.

While the series once again opened with alto sax player Pat Loomis and Friends, this year's series departs from tradition with an expanded schedule of six weeks instead of four, with four weekly appearances by Loomis and two by the International String Trio on August 23 and 30.

Residents filled the chairs and benches in the park and library volunteers served slices of watermelon to the spectators. Outside the park, people on foot and on bicycle stopped to enjoy the show as well.

Loomis and guitarist Wali Ali, drummer Zeke Martin, and keyboardist Rusty Scott playing a Hammond B-3 organ played tracks from Loomis's recent release, "It's About Time", including familiar favorites such as Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Willow Weep for Me" and originals including "Riverside Strut" and "Blue Boogaloo". Loomis and Friends will return to the library park on Tuesday, August 2, August 9 and August 16.
