Approximately 350 neighbors, undeterred by the hazy, hot and humid weather, gathered in O'Day Playground, 85 West Newton Street, on Thursday, July 5 to welcome the 11th season of the Tito Puente Latin Music Series, sponsored by IBA, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and Berklee College of Music's Community Affairs and Campus Engagement (CACE) program. IBA CEO Vanessa Calderon-Rosado addressed the crowd and introduced Berklee CACE associate director Abria Smith, who proudly noted that many of the performers were affiliated with Berklee. Concertgoers danced and socialized to the Latin and African-inspired sounds of Puerto Rican percussionist Zayra Pola and her band, 3nity.
