The exhibition will take place at Prime Realty, 467 Columbus Avenue, Boston MA. Artists' opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. Light refreshments will be served and there will be a short community presentation at 6:00 PM.

Sharing Our Stories: Never Far From Home, was curated by MassArt graduate student, Chanel Thervil.  " I have always been fascinated by how the culture of an environment can shape the people who inhabit it. Artists are especially sensitive to this process because they absorb everything that surrounds them as inspiration for their artwork. Anyone from the neighbors to celebrities are made visible and alive through the artist's recreations of what they've observed and experienced. This exhibition serves as a reflection of creativity cultivated by the South End and those who call it home. "

Artist Ekua Holmes, whose studio has been in the historic Piano Factory for over 15 years says, "Over the years, the South End landscape has changed in many ways though its' architectural details remain. The nature of art, however, is to capture and freeze for a moment those things we wish not to forget. Those images and reflections we wish to share with others and hold tenderly in our hearts and minds for as long as we can."

Arnesse Brown, of Tenants' Development Corporation grew up in the South End says, "growing up in the old South End was a joy and such an experience. I think for most of the kids who grew up in the old South End it was very special and we felt loved by all of our neighbors. Growing up in a neighborhood where diversity was the norm created an environment that you could thrive in and learn about people from a different point of view and perspective. The kids who grew up in the old South End think we are pretty special, there is even a Facebook page called, South End Kids and on this page we all share stories and memories of growing up in this very special place where back then backyards were used for families and not for parking cars, where kids would run through the alleys to catch up with friends."
